Description: This painting was inspired by nothing other than my love for my home city, Chicago, and all of the experiences I have had here throughout my life. During this process of painting Margie’s Candies ice cream shoppe, I was able to work on an urban scene and experiment with perspective while still allowing the character of the place to shine. The space is filled with all things sweet and a warm energy that has provided generations of happiness and laughter for Chicago residents, and I was honored to be able to depict that through my work. Margie’s Candies holds a special place in my heart because I used to go there every holiday season with my cousins as a child, and every time I see it it reminds me of spending time with my family.
