Artist Statement: “Beauty Amidst Life and Death” highlights beauty within faith. Death has a likeness and the acceptance and discipline religion possesses. It also brings a unique contrast to that artistry. With the digital materials I possess, the piece is sentimental because of the experimental techniques I’m growing up to master. I incorporated key aspects within religion like the Rosary the subject is holding. It stands for guidance and hope within the lives in which those who hold it. I included charms in the Rosary that portray animals that symbolize vitality, balance, and both life and death. The process was in need of acceptance because it went through numerous layout changes and corrections, yet it came together homogeneously.

To be cautious of what is to come and what is perceived. “Cautious” is relative to that exaggerated expression, in order to convey the unknown. We can only think of what we perceive and, therefore, you make a choice about what emotions you feel with that vague perspective. It was made with only stipples and no longer than a millimeter stroke. I wanted every piece of detail to be visible and, with the small stroke method, it was carefully carried out. I purposefully displayed a zoomed-in look so that the features displayed speak for themselves. It’s difficult to grab attention with minimal features, so the challenge was there and I believed it was carried out thoroughly with the intent of success.
