Materials: Acrylic Paint and Paper Cutouts
Dimensions: 20” × 15”
Description: This painting is about really loving someone, from both perspectives. Loving someone enough to trust them, and the other person loving you enough to be a shoulder for you to cry on.

Artist Statement: My artwork explores concepts of femininity and mental health. When I first started thinking about these concepts, it was only about femininity- being a femme-presenting nonbinary person, I was worried that my identity would be deemed invalid because I didn’t present myself androgynously, which was how I felt that society would want me to look to take my identity seriously. I wanted to express that there wasn’t a “one size fits all” version of this, as I was dealing with my own feelings and attachment to my version of what it meant to be feminine. As I explored this topic, the focus shifted to mental health, particularly, struggles with depression, trauma, and my relationships with others. While struggling with depression, I have coped in many ways. I found that using my art as a way to streamline these thoughts and feelings into something that others can use to heal has been most helpful to me. Trauma I have endured as well as my relationships with others are often the centerpieces of my work. The feelings my work discusses stem from love, trust in others, how it’s broken, sadness, and anger. Writing poetry and creating artwork around it helps me investigate these heavy emotions from the lens of an artist.
