Artist Statement: In many online circles there has been a revival of the Greek myth of Medusa, her story has been retold to create a symbol of power and protection for survivors of sexual assault and violence. I wanted to create a depiction that reflected these values as well as an American traditional tattoo art style. I prefer to draw expressions that contain movement and I believe this choice as well as the bright colors brought forth the mood of the portrait. Both colored pencils and markers where used to create texture, as well as small pen stokes to create shadows.
