Artist Statement: In my portfolio, I submitted many art pieces that portray the feelings of migraines. My first time being hospitalized for migraines, I engaged in art therapy. I was able to use art as a way to relieve some of the intense feelings my head was going through and a way to get my mind focused on something else. This inspired me to start creating art that portrayed the feelings of migraines. Throughout my senior year, I have made many pieces of art that look chaotic, dismembered, etc to convey the disassociated feeling while having a migraine. I use oil pastels, watercolor, charcoal, micron, pencil, and collage papers to make art and different textures, mixing media together to create complex pieces. As well as migraine art, I let my mind go free. I make what comes to mind and let my hand lead, which expresses some of my internal thoughts and emotions. Art is a universal language and I take advantage of that by making art that can speak to people across all social boundaries. I use my art as a way to express different aspects of myself that otherwise, couldn’t be conveyed through words. It shows parts of my personality as it is not explained but rather seen.
