Artist Statement: When I create art, I always like to replicate how my mind works in some kind of way. In this particular piece, there’s a lot that is being displayed. You can’t keep your eye on one thing, because there’s so many other things that are being thrown at you. You look at one thing, and then you see how that one thing could be connected to another. This not only represents my overcrowding mind, but also the concept of dreams. Since my theme was Dreams, I wanted many concepts thrown at the viewer. The concept of how dreams connect to one’s mind and thoughts, different perspectives of dreams, how you view yourself, how it connects to life, and how you have the choice to choose a new route. My mind, personally, is crowded with thoughts and sometimes randomness. I thought this specifically could be portrayed in dreams, since the same concept occurs in dreams. Nothing makes sense, it’s random, and sometimes overcrowded. In my dreams I sometimes see myself in a 3rd person perspective, but then switched back into a 1st person perspective. Which connects to how I view myself. I sometimes view myself from a 3rd person perspective (perspective of others) and then a first person perspective, how I view myself and critique myself. And the piece having so much going on and so much to pay attention to, connects to growing up and entering adulthood. Life is changing and there’s so much going on and to keep up with. Having a job, getting into college, getting a car, future plans, etc. It’s all a big bunch of things all at once. I wanted to represent that with having a lot going on, with not so much of an open space. Considering that time can be tight. But even with so much going on, we still have a path open for choice. Whether it be to enter something new or exit something. Like how you can exit a dream, or enter a new dream. Or even to have the choice to be lucid, and take control.
