Artist Statement: In the future, there’s a movement to acknowledge and uplift African-Americans and our culture. The movement counteracts years of African-American culture being appropriated, commercialized, and degraded. In order to reclaim the culture, there’s a return to and emphasis upon Black beauty standards and African-American fashion. Examples in the subject can be seen in large hoops, gold jewelry, long nails and lashes, and an Afro. The future technology has developed to a point where fully functioning permanent replacements for every body parts are available, as shown in the right arm. The gold accents in the arm compliment my character’s skin tone, and the lining for it is based off of the bone structure in the arm.
