Artist Statement: These artworks were done for art assignments and revolve around a theme or idea assigned to us, for both ink drawings we focused on creating values with watered down ink, both in which were my first time using the materials, for these two I really wanted to push myself out of my comfort zone and create a story within these scenes. For my AP drawing I really wanted to create a story as well but bring it close to home and allow the viewer to be in the presence of the scene I drew. This idea of allowing the viewer to feel in the presence of the setting in the drawing or a part of it would be my main focus for most of my artwork mainly because I like allowing the viewer to feel a connection and or relate with the artwork rather than having an artwork were the viewer feels no part of.
Description: This artwork was done for my AP art studio investigation, in this investigation my inquiry was how could I reflect my lived childhood in a Hispanic household, for this piece decide to recreate the memory of my dad slouched on a couch. In this painting my dad is seen in minimal clothing to show him in his natural habitat and comfort zone and surrounded by transparent rabbits to represent all of the “tales”/stories (fairy tales) he would tell hence the name “Cuentos de Conejos”-“Rabbit Tales”, in the background the wall blends in with the couch to furthermore show an unrealistic setting/situation/fantasy.
