Artist Statement: When making this portfolio I wanted to express the joy in creating art and more importantly what art means to me. Art is frustrating and tedious, but is also peaceful and creative. I made these artworks to calm my mind and draw the characters and objects that I enjoy. I made the black and white artworks using pencil and pen, while the colored artwork was with pastels. Usually, my artwork consists of just picking up a pencil and paper and getting to work. No preparation, no guidelines, just draw what you love. I was always invested in pencil because it’s simple and easy to control. Also I can add more detail to my drawings by using a pencil with the amount of shades I can create. I only recently started using pastels and I’ve been enjoying it a lot. Pastels get your hands dirty, but it represents hard work in a way. I grew up watching a lot of animated shows and I always liked looking at how the designs move. It was smooth but sharp, fast but detailed, I wanted to draw like that. Also, my friends were always great drawers, I aspired to be like them. Throughout my whole life I always drew, almost as if I cared for it like a child. I am always proud of my art even if it doesn’t hold to my standards. This work is not only part of my life but it is part of me as a person. No matter what age I am or what I’m doing, I will always want to draw.
