Artist Statement: My Artwork is driven by the question “Is apathy a mental illness.
My art revolves around original characters that I plan to make into a comic book. In My art I have a recurring main character and theme of apathy that is shown through the actions my character completes and the reaction from other people around him and the effect it has on the world around him.
I demonstrate emotion through facial and body expression. Originally my investigation was just going to be the concept of apathy and what it looked like. Eventually I decided I wanted to create my own character and portray apathy through him; Then I came across the Idea that apathy could be a mental illness and I wanted to portray how that could be true. I created my main character digitally and experimented with marker and color pencil, and eventually went back to digital art. I use shading and lighting to create mood for each piece.”
