Artist Statement: Growing up and being viewed as a quiet child has taken a toll on me. I was forced to be quiet about many harmful things that have happened to me. Not being able to speak up had just led to me being over stepped on. I drew the footsteps to represent the amount of times being overstepped/overlooked. This piece was inspired by the multiple hearts I used to draw growing up. The heart, contrasting against the footsteps, represents how bright and happy I should’ve been growing up.
