Grade: Senior

Materials: Graphite and Charcoal pencil
Dimensions: 18 in x 24in
Description: This work was made as a unit project for my drawing and painting major. I made this piece to express the loneliness and depression I had during quarantine. I used graphite and charcoal to give the work a darker tone.

Artist Statement: In my work, I aim to put myself through different scenarios to immerse the viewer in the stories I’m trying to tell. These stories and messages can vary. My work can explore, or sometimes be about me interacting with different animals. The mediums I use within my work are charcoal, colored pencils, and pen and ink. I also experiment with digital media and animation. I enjoy working in those mediums because they allow me to utilize texture and show my marks within my work. Using this method makes the work more personal as it shows my process. Every individual and meniscus mark in a piece makes the work appear to have more weight. Which is why I utilize cross hatching in a lot of works because it is great for rendering human flesh, and getting the folds in clothing.
