Artist Statement: The 1927 Mississippi Delta flood was the most destructive flood in American history. Despite its prominence, the flood itself and the storms leading up to it are poorly understood. It has been described in a scientific paper as, “prophetic visions, and vivid imagination.” I drew on this theme as I constructed my album, The Delta Flood Prophet. Following an unnamed protagonist, haunted by the voices in his dreams, his prophetic warnings are ignored by a town on the brink of peril. When the storm hits, all hope is lost.
