Description: This oil painting on board represents my coach and my sparring partner at one of the Chicago Park District’s boxing events just before the match. I joined the Loyola field-house boxing gym in Rogers Park about three years ago. Just as I was finally gaining more experience and confidence in the art of pugilism, Covid hit, and the gym closed. I miss going to my boxing gym, I miss the people there, the constant energy, the sweat, and the incessant ding of the bell…the coach yelling “Hand’s up! Move your legs…”so, this painting signifies a sacred memory on a gold background that becomes more precious as time passes.
Artist Statement: Boxing as a metaphor for life: Ageless age-old.
