Artist Statement:
Multitasking is part of a larger series I created that was inspired by retro air travel posters from the 1950s-1970s. In these travel posters, we saw glamourized, idolized versions of stewardesses, pilots, plane mechanics, and the entire flight experience. It is sad that the magic of flying through the air at inhumanly fast speeds has been lost to us as a people. I asked myself, how can we gain it back? Well, what is the next big jump in flight? What will be the new, glamorous form of travel that will get people excited again? This brought to mind the future of space travel, we already see private companies popping up creating ships to venture into space. How soon before these private companies, and air travel companies we know today expand into civilian space travel? How long before we settle other planets, and one can take a short vacation on Titan or visit a relative on Europa?
In Multitasking we see a young mechanic heroically fixing her ship while keeping an eye out for potential hijackers. Each piece in the series was created by hand using multiple artistic mediums and collaging techniques.
