Artist Statement: his piece was inspired by Holly Carmichael. My piece was an appropriation of hers. When making the piece I was not sure if I wanted my medium to be paint or colored pencil. I did pick acrylic paint. I felt that the texture would fit smoothly over each other because I need to layer it out. The variety in this piece is all the shapes and colors that make up the one united image of trees. Variety and unity is not just an important principle of art but to me, it should be an important principle for our society today because there is a variety of us humans and we should all be united. In the piece, it is a peaceful and calm place where the more differences the better it can be.
