Description: A couple appears to be entranced by a quaint fountain featuring two young children in the city of St. Augustine, Florida, home of the famed Fountain of Youth. Though this is not THE fountain, one can’t help but wonder if the couple is in fact contemplating their own youth. Created from an old photograph taken by my aunt during my childhood in St. Augustine, I decided to give this somewhat ironic image new life through a dedicated process of rendering details in a photo-realistic manner using colored pencil. My choice of omitting the background places emphasis on the two subjects balanced between the foreground and mid-ground.
Artist Statement: A simple break from the Florida heat, a pair sit and appear to contemplate their younger years as their gaze is affixed forward towards a youthful fountain located in St. Augustine, Florida. My colored pencil work plays on chance observations and moments in time. Captured in soft careful detail I focus on the subjects themselves, removing context that is ready to be filled with a viewer’s own nostalgia.
