Artist Statement: As with many of my pieces where a name doesn’t immediately come to mind, 02_14 is named after the date in which I completed the piece. This piece was born out of the idea that, throughout the pandemic, I found it was much more fun in collaborative settings to record to an electronic track rather than a simple click. This is a translation of that idea into a solo piece. With this piece in particular, I wanted to keep it fairly simple, utilizing only two mallets, so that it could be more accessible to younger students. Many pieces for percussion and electronics are inaccessible for younger percussionists due to their difficulty.
