Our ensemble has been exploring an array of theatrical works written and performed by black and brown artists. As we look closely at what we call “successful” or “defining” pieces we’ve learned that the art presented is usually focused on a theme or injustice that speaks directly to the lives of the artists. In our showcase, not only will we present our own personal works of art, but we will include the classwork that helped shape our thinking. Some questions we found ourselves asking include; What does it mean to be a theatre artist today? Can we connect and build a meaningful ensemble virtually? How do we creatively share our own stories?
