Artist Statement:
My photo portfolio shows two different projects tied together by my interest in finding one-of-a-kind angles. The first picture was taken at the Bahai’s House of Worship in Wilmette, Illinois for a photography class assignment focused on subject and views. I’ve always loved religious buildings and enjoyed the challenge of getting the repeating arches from interesting spots around the temple. For the second photo, I photographed parts of my Nissan’s headlights. Cars have fascinated me forever, and I like trying new tweaks and details. The close-up, artsy headlight shots show my creative eye for machinery parts and my skill at making everyday objects like headlights into intriguing topics. Both sets show my talent for noticing compelling compositions in regular places. My photo process involves scouting places or things with potential for bold framing and then using lighting and my place or closeness to bring out more vivid shapes. I carefully edited each picture after to make the colors and clarity better. Overall this work shows my ongoing search for perspective in photos and my want to capture decorative aspects around me.
