Materials: Acrylic paint on canvas
Dimensions: 11” × 14”
Artist Statement: This painting, Solitude’s Venom, depicts the negative influence mental and physical solitude has on a person and those who surround them. Solitude’s Venom, quite literally, is the splashing of negativity and misfortune outwards onto others, especially when one feels alone or in solitude. At the same time, that venom inflicts further pain on the user because it amplifies the feelings of loneliness which, in this painting, are represented by the erratic nature of the red and black splatters over a warm yellow (the warm yellow symbolizes the once innocent desire to connect with others; however, that innocence is now tainted with the red and black of hatred, jealousy, and loneliness).
