Artist Statement: As an artist, I typically work with acrylic paint, artist pens, and pencil. I like the contrast between the unique mark making and texture I can get with artist pens and the fluidity of paint. However, I have experimented and gained experience with other mediums, such as soft pastels and watercolor, which has allowed me to find other mediums that I like and enrich my art. In my work, I explore social topics such as idolatry, immigration, and identity. Through an exploration of these topics, I have engaged in research and discussion that helps to shape my art. I also like to create art that is purely fun and aesthetic, but, most of all, my art is my safe space and I use it as a way to explore my psyche and build a better understanding of myself. I find it cathartic to process my thoughts and externalize them onto paper, and I place a lot of emphasis on making my art flexible and open to different interpretations because I want to spark dialogue and self-reflection.
