Artist Statement: The pieces in my portfolio are created from my imagination. It makes whatever in my head turn into a great piece of art with my vision. My teachers gave me a prompt for the projects/assignments and I expand it to make it more something you would not think of. Growing in the 2000’s I was surrounded by animation hence my use and love for colors. I also combined my utter love for horror with cartoony colorfulness for my inspiration. My artistic process includes listening to 80’s/90’s music or having background noise from old raunchy reality tv shows. From what is shown I love using acrylic paint and gained how to use it properly from the help of my art teachers. Acrylic paint gives me a big range of colors while keeping it as matte as possible.
My past experiences with either painting or drawing helped my art today because I put my art there for others to see especially my old elementary school. I’ve painted murals and on the steps of stairs at the school to get kids engaged with their surroundings. The bright colors lure them in and they learn the meaning behind them. That experience helps me put that in my artwork no matter what the prompt is. Growing up on the southside of Chicago, my art gives me an escape from what’s going on. My art means the biggest part of me as a child almost. I spent time, effort, and so much emotion so it can look in my eyes as perfection.
