Artist Statement: I’ve created this artwork because of respect. I respect the history of old or abandoned settings in Chicago. I’m a Chicago Southsider; I love Chicago despite its double-edge. I can see the beauty of many rugged things in my city. As a youth, my friends and I have had plenty of adventures on the Southside. With Google maps, a CTA ventra card, and a backpack full of snacks, nothing could go wrong. I started to document a lot of what we did and saw because I knew our journeys would soon end. My inspiration comes from Chicago musical artists such as Chance the Rapper, G-Herbo, and Kayne West. Cole Bennet, CEO of Lyrical Lemonade, and Virgil Abloh, CEO of Off-White both play a major role in my drive for artistic success.
All of my work consists of using a Canon Rebel T5 and Adobe Photoshop. It has been that way since my sophomore year of high school but I feel as though my artistry has taken off as of this year 2020. I ask myself how did this even happen to this day. When I capture a photo, go home, and open the photoshop application, I have a totally different vision and execution that becomes relentless. My combination of artistic achievement, initiative and personal character, makes me an ideal candidate for this opportunity. Every moment is feasible in due time so I do not take a leave of absence.
