Artist Statement:

My concept was the disorienting and overwhelming effect of loss. I portrayed this using trees in the background that bend and connect into a spiral or labyrinth behind the person, and I used mourning doves, a bird I remember from my childhood, to cover the subject’s eyes, both silencing her ability to communicate with her eyes and blinding her. The dying roses represent the way loss can alter the way life is perceived, as their color is draining out of them.
