Artist Statement: A commonly touted fact is that looking at the rings of a tree, you can tell its age: a pattern of light and dark bands resulting from growth in both the warmth and cold. But the sparrow does not know this. The sparrow only knows that the corpse of its home lies in a pile on the floor. In our effort to build our own houses, towns, and cities, clearing the land in pursuit of a flat surface to build on, we have destroyed the homes of other creatures. This painting takes the perspective of a bird, confused as loud machines destroy its home and leave it in ruin.
