Description: The artwork I created was a Jean-Michel Basquiat inspired painting, which included various colors, ragged lines, swirls and blocks, and much more. To start my process, I got a scratch paper and a marker to sort of scribble down the vision I had of what I wanted to do, which made the execution process of the project a little easier. I named this artwork, “Mirror Invention.” This piece attempts to reflect the self image, such as the “ideal look” and how it’s different for everyone. This also reflects how someone could be so beautiful, so adored by other people with features that they absolutely despise. In this case, a girl is looking into a mirror, seeing this entirely different, distorted version of herself rather than a realistic vision. The mirror invents a new image, one that the girl does not like and that throws her into a state of insecurity and longing to look different.
Artist Statement: A distorted version of herself.
