Description: Guts and Glitter embodies deception and juxtaposition through the pink and youthful facade, versus the gory flesh on the inside. This piece was inspired by the musical artist, Melanie Martinez, who uses hyper-feminism and infantilism to express dark subjects and experiences. I specifically used beads and rhinestones to symbolize a children’s art project, to invite a personal connection within the viewers to the piece and arouse the feeling of being a child. I made this piece to symbolize the psychological deception that occurs often undetected, or that is even ignored due to the false facade that conceals the suffering within.
