Artist Statement: I create art because some things can’t be verbally expressed. Not every emotion has a label and not every experience is comparable to something else. Visuals are the clearest and most complete way I can convey thoughts.
My focus this year is exploring how the past has shaped my self-image and worldview. This body of work reflects significant events, personal revelations, and interpersonal relationships that have shaped my identity.
To start my creative process, I chose a memory and then use free word association to make a mental list. In a sketchbook, I represent the words with the positions of my figures. My final pieces are digital. I’ll upload pictures of the sketches to a program as a base or just use the concepts. I use a drawing tablet and stylus or touch screen to “fingerpaint.”
