Artist Statement: My artwork is created in a traditional style using dry media such as charcoal and dry pastel, I made sure to focus on line quality and integrate various textures in these drawings. Working loose works best for me and with a messy of media like charcoal you can move the pigment to whichever shape fits my strengths is being spontaneous. Outside experiences outside of the art classroom are working with the AfterSchoolMatters program has built confidence in me working with charcoal is my go-to option whenever I want to draw or practice on gestures drawing. Figure drawings are a personal favorite of mine now with the many gesture drawings I’ve done through the program, I’ve learned that you have to get through a lot of gesture drawings even if they may look horrible in our perspective. Over time, you’ll gain confidence and results through perseverance and practice. Inspiration for botanical drawings stems from Bob Ross and his paintings depicting nature. I enjoy his works and letting other people believe that they too can make art. I found that to be an admirable quality and overall his love for nature gave me an appreciation for the environment. This work represents my interests and overall ability to make art.
