Artist Statement:

Throughout this scholastic journey of artistic exploration, I find myself in awe of the many forms of photography presented to me. The content taught has allowed me to expand my perspective of what art is and how to best capture that perspective as a photographer. These pieces represent the infusion of photography skills into my daily life and how the perspective of art in my daily life has resulted in these photos finding a message in the combination of basic objects or actions.

In this image with my DSLR camera, the material shown is the skyline, presented from the rooftop of my school, Lane Tech. This was taken from the highest access point for students at the school: in the school’s greenhouse. The wide range of available views from that area allowed me to have access to take this wonderful image of our great city. My deep love for our city influences my perspective of art, especially in an art-centered city like Chicago.

The combination of basic things to promote a message is one of the key aspects of my work as a young student right now. In my life, I am present with a variety of things that are unnoticeable to the normal observer. However, my goal as a photographer is to combine and present these objects as something that provokes thought and sends a message. With this in mind, all future projects will keep this idea in mind.
