Artist Statement:
An acrylic surrealist painting that highlights the contrast between a conventional American suburban home with an otherworldly “invader.” Through the juxtaposition of ordinary suburbia and fantastical aliens, this painting aims to make the strange familiar and the familiar strange. The blue and red house, adorned with a white star, represents the American ideal. The fence, which draws a sharp barrier between the normalcy of society and the foreign darkness beyond, is broken by the foreign entities inside it next to the American home whilst a simple lamp illuminates the darkness outside of it. This painting reflects the confusing and isolating experience of alienation, and growing up feeling like an outsider trying to conform to mainstream society.
