Artist Statement:

This piece is about a feeling of hopelessness in the face of ones’ destiny. The figure in the middle, who doesn’t represent me but an original character of mine, is bound by red strings of fate as a consequence for her efforts to try and avoid the path laid out for her. The surrounding birds, sarus cranes, also symbolize fate and ties of responsibilities that are literally suffocating. The strings wrapping from the figure’s hands around the birds’ necks show the small amount of control she’s trying to keep hold of.
