Artist Statement:
As a toddler with autism and developmental delay, a lot of my time is scheduled, from school to home. This includes practicing staying in the lines when coloring, practicing handwriting, practicing behavior, practicing communication/social skills, going to applied behavior therapy on the weekends. Yes, more than the other kiddos around me. I am always working on me, pushing to be what society calls “typical”, pushing to be the best “Jordan” she can be. Yes, but this gets tough, and I have my good days and bad days. Whether a good day or a bad, I like to spend time doing what I really love, drawing. I really enjoy drawing, because here I can be myself, not try hard, not judged, not overwhelmed, not having someone help or look over my work, not frustrated. I don’t have to “apologize” or “try again” because this is me. Unapologetically Jordan.
