Artist Statement:

Many children have very active imaginations when it comes to daily events that are often lost when we grow up. Whether it’s playing pretend, or creating vivid scenes in their heads, I wanted to see if I could visually capture what they imagined within my works to retain that sense of childlike wonder as I transition to adulthood. In this piece, I wanted to get the magical essence of the glow of fireflies at night, making the scene inspired by Van Gogh’s Starry night. I also made a child hand’s alongside an adult’s to symbolize the reconnection of a lost precious passtime. The people I referenced for my drawing are important to me as they represent my young childhood and recent best friends who I hold close to all my greatest memories.
