Artist Statement:
I’m Eli Garland and I’m 5 1/2 years old. I like to draw and paint pictures with a mixture of crayons, markers, gel crayons and tempera paint and tempera paint crayons. Some themes that I like to draw are planets, rainbows, plants and people. I make art because I love it. It makes me feel great. It’s really good to practice so other people say “wow” instead of “why did you draw that?”
I choose my paper and type of materials I want to use first then I draw something I see in my head. Illustrators in books inspire me such as Eric Carle and Lois Ehlert (Chicka Chicka Boom Boom). I hope my drawings will motivate other CPS students to try drawing too. This piece is about instruments that have been used across the world in the past, present and future.
