Artist Statement: I like to call the subjects of my work “snapshots” because that photograph-like freezing of a moment is what I try to capture with my pieces. In that vein, every piece I make is never truly completed. When I stop working on a piece it means exactly that—I’m simply done with it; if there is narrative to be implied then there is always some unseen continuation.
The majority of my work now is character/figure focused. When people see my art I want them to immediately be struck with a strong feeling of whatever it was my intention to convey. The meaning of my art is almost never set in stone but it’ll always have that purpose described before and I feel that is more important and necessary than any prescribed “meaning” something could have.
At the end of the day, I make art for myself and myself alone, but the best art is the kind that the viewer can immediately insert themselves into, that feels “real” no matter the subject. I use art as an outlet to express my love for technique, design, composition, and story. I’ll continue to adapt my art as I grow as a person, building an archive of strong work for myself to keep and others to interpret, enjoy, and seek inspiration from.
