Artist Statement: Culture impacts identity, but what if someone grew up without cultural practices? How would that impact their identity? I was born mixed race (Mexican, Puerto Rican and Japanese) yet essentially grew up “white-washed” and had to seek out folklore and traditions people of my cultures would partake in. I want my work to reflect on the blending of culture that could define a mixed-race person such as myself while also exploring more of my cultures while doing so in hopes of “taking back” that part of my identity.
