Artist Statement:
This piece is a brain in a skull filled with waves of blue text that affirms amorphous identity and nonconformity. In contrast, the maroon text being poured into the waves is made up of comments that have made me feel deeply othered, hurt, or isolated over the years, all rooted in antiquated norms, as illustrated by the people cut out from 1950s photos. The maroon text begins to mix with the blue, depicting the impact that others’ judgements of me have had on my identity and self-image.
