Description: For The “Perfect” Student I made it intending to make a statement about the amount of effort and pressure it takes to be a perfect high school student. Being a student myself that has had to balance getting good grades, staying committed to extracurriculars and keeping up with responsibility at home has made me exhausted. And trying to continuously keep up with it now as a senior, with the idea of college looming overhead has made me feel burnt out. So ultimately the paint is to show how extremely daunting it is to truly be a perfect student, to the point that we have to work ourselves to the bone to be one. In terms of creating the piece first I positioned the skull and apple to photographed and then drew it no grid it. Next using transfer paper I moved the drawing onto watercolor paper. To get the appearance of different levels of lighting on the skull I continuously layered on and mixed different shades of white, black, red and tan. Along with blending harshly with brush while still wet to get the colors to transition nicely to one another .
