Description: Depicted is a corally pink snake wrapped around a green hand. This drawing references Vito Desalvo’s colored pencil layering technique, which helped describe my subject by creating more interesting colors. I used Vito’s composition strategy of creating an organic white boarder around my piece to make the colors pop even more. I put the words “Don’t Be Afraid” because I have a fear of snakes, and wanted that message to come across.
The most successful part of my project is the subject. A problem I faced was deciding what colors I wanted to use as I didn’t want there to be multiple of similar colors next to each other, and I also wanted there to be a distinction between the subject and the background. I tried to test out the colors and make sure when I was layering colors, that I never layered the same colors on top of each other, so that there would be a wide range of colors. My fear of snakes has influenced this piece the most.
