Artist Statement: My earliest memories making art was in elementary school. I attended George Washington elementary school in the southeast side of Chicago. From kindergarten to at least third grade we had an art teacher that would go from classroom to classroom with an art cart instead of taking whole classes to a designated room. When we did get an art room it was really small and when you would fit a whole class of fourth graders in there it would be pretty congested. No one else around me besides my art teacher really makes art, which is the reason why I inspire myself to make the best I can.
When I make art, I don’t try to express any feeling, I really just go with the flow. The only time art changes how I feel is when I finish a project, and it makes me feel either accomplishment or disappointment depending on how it comes out. Beyond class, I like using art to decorate my room and house. I have collected paintings from places I’ve traveled to and I always hang it up in my room.
I think art is a way to express yourself and or a way to just have fun. Personally I make art to have fun and take cool pictures. What’s easy about art is that you don’t have to make anything complicated for it to be “good”. I see a lot of modern art just to be like simple painting and it is almost child-like. I don’t really try to judge art that much but just take a different perspective for something I haven’t seen before.
