Artist Statement: This piece represents my home.
Description: This piece is titled “Where My Heart Is”. The title was inspired my the phrase “Home is where your heart is.” The thing is, when I think of home, I don’t think of a house. I think of things that aren’t really given locations. Road trips, hiking alongside a stream, playing my guitar, watching the beautiful rainbow sunsets along the highway, all of those things, they are my home. My home is not a place. It’s not one thing. It’s a feeling. It’s not that I feel at home around a campfire, it’s that I literally feel home. This piece was created from reflection on myself. This piece represents all that makes me feel home. The buttons are the creativity, and the home I feel within the process of making art. The Lego house is the child within me, and when it’s free, I feel home. Every little thing on this piece, from the colorful ribbon, to the lace, to the road. That’s my home.
