Description: Inspired by Barbara Rivera’s Summer Camp painting, this piece is a visual of what the United States of America truly is. It expresses the sad emotion of children being separated by their families and being alone in cages. I have a background with blue, white, and red paint expressing the United States, with a phrase that says, “This is America” in black. The doll hands represent the children in immigration camps not knowing what’s going on. The handcuffs represent freedom being taken away from these children. This painting is a demonstration of innocence in immigrant children and how their first view on our American society is already negative.
