Artist Statement: I made the pieces in my portfolio as an experiment for my art class. I was told to experiment with different ideas and materials, and that’s what I did. I used materials that I wasn’t very comfortable with (such as watercolors, color pencils, etc.) and explored ideas that I hadn’t had much experience with, such as abstract landscaping and humanoid figures. These experiments helped me grow as an artist and explore materials that I may have never used otherwise. These works are a mark of my growth, and while they are not perfect, they have taught me more about art than many of my other pieces. They taught me persistence and patience, pushing through phases where I disliked the art and what it was becoming, until I created a piece I was proud of.
