Artist Statement: My work explores the idea of freezing nature in its time of progression. Nature is always changing, moving from growth to dormancy and then to decay. And even in times of death and decay it can be seen as beautiful. My interest in plants has allowed me a special opportunity to create artwork, either inspired by or made with plants that I find growing. I’m fascinated by the way that plants cycle though the seasons and years changing from the climate and human interference.

This selection of work focuses on the beauty of fall and how quickly it is lost. I went out in late fall to gather materials for my project and let those materials help guide me to the results I wanted. To get the background effect in my pieces, I have started using a scanner to capture my artwork. I’ve really enjoyed using the scanner in my artwork because it is almost always seen only as functional to scan paperwork. I like being able to use non-traditional pieces to help create my artwork.
