Description: How people from America see Mexican immigrants
Artist Statement: This is in future America where the robots are seen as outcasts and only used for the entertainment of the rich people. This robot is in a classic folklorico dress. Folklorico is a type of traditional Mexican dancing where we use a large skirt to make circle shapes while dancing mixed with stomp dancing. This is a representation of how people from America see Mexican immigrants. They see Mexican culture as entertainment and something pretty to look at but then when they see the person from said culture they only see them as weird outsiders. The moment that I painted is where the robot realizes that she is more than just entertainment for other people but can also use this gift of dancing to make herself happy. So the robot is dancing for itself alone in an abandoned old theater.
