Artist Statement: I made the work submitted because I wanted to create an experience for all people, all genders, self expressions, and body types. I wanted my work to have that impact and serve as that message because fashion and clothing is another way of self expression and another way to present who you are. If you’re more comfortable in the way you present yourself and what you wear, it’ll transfer into other areas of your life. Along with that, I wanted to submit something that captivated my personal style and what fashion meant to me as I grow into someone who is more mature and ready for many different types of fashion avenues. I used many different inspirations to make my boards and designs, I was inspired by fashion icons such as Freddie Mercury, Rihanna, Virgil Aboh, ect. And brands that are very dramatic and trendy in their designs such as Balenciaga and Gucci. My artistic process is unorthodox in the sense that I don’t have a set time to sit and create, I create based upon the inspiration that I get at random times and things that I see. For instance, when I’m just scrolling on instagram, I’ll see something and think, “I would’ve done that differently, maybe with a tighter silhouette, or platform shoes to make the shoes more prominent.” or even, “I could do those sleeves with a built in corset, and adding navy to the color scheme.” Additionally, I try to use certain materials within designing in order to add more texture and character to my designs, like rope for shoe strings, more satin for tops, more metal details on purses, jeans, and jackets.
