Artist Statement: Art is exactly like people say it is: it’s an escape to a different reality. I don’t know how to express it in words properly, but I like making art because I’m infatuated with capturing the “soul” of certain art pieces. The reason why I draw is that I am a visualizer when it comes to reading poetry or Gothic fiction. I like to daydream a lot, but it’s a tedious process when it comes down to sketching or making the “soul” because I am an overthinker, and since it’s my senior year I haven’t had time to give it my all. The process of making art and seeing what others can do just inspires me to keep doing what I’m doing because the world would be dull if there was no creativity and productivity. I know there is sometimes where you feel uncreative or uninspired, but you take these burdens and create these into something that may apply to your everyday life. And honestly, it’s okay if it’s taking a long time to develop, that’s all a part of the process. I’m more of a mixed media artist, but I mostly use colored pencils, charcoal, and pastel! There is no significant importance to why I use them the most, I just have more access to them. But to help me ignore unhappiness or sadness, I just sit down and focus on what I am creating. And for the young prodigies like me: Don’t give up or be discouraged by unrealistic goals, it’s an everyday process to get where you want to be, and coming from me I am still learning. Today we have new technology, it’s all around in our architecture! We see art every day, so what’s your excuse?
