Artist Statement: This artwork is a cubist self portrait that I created to express myself and personality through the techniques I included. I think of myself as a person who is bright and colorful so I thought I should make the portrait pop and add multiple colors. Cubism is a very complicated, disfigured, but also connecting and an intriguing art form which I feel is similar to how I see myself and even my personality. I used many cubist techniques and concepts to create this piece. I incorporated curvy lines and asymmetrical features that made the portrait disfigured. For example, the eyes are at two different levels and are made differently on the paper. One has an eyebrow, whereas the other doesn’t. Everything in the portrait is somehow connected to everything else, specifically by the lines on the face. A line goes through the lips and connects to the nose, eyes, and hair. I incorporated many colors in the face but kept the background black, so that the portrait would pop out.
